We monitor the underwater visibility in the Groenen Heuvels, a popular diving and recreational lake in Beuningen, managed by Leisurelands. Our goal is to record changes in visibility over time so that we can contribute to the preservation and protection of this unique diving environment.
About the project.
Since 2025, we have been measuring underwater visibility in De Groene Heuvels according to the methodology of GUE Project Baseline. With fixed measurement points, we are building a reliable picture of the water quality in this frequently used diving pond. By sharing our results within Project Baseline, we contribute to a global network of data and make the development of De Groene Heuvels transparent for sustainable use.
Why Project Baseline Groenen Heuvels?
The Groenen Heuvels is a deep recreational pond with clear water, located in Beuningen (Gelderland). It is a popular location for both recreational divers and training dives.
With Project Baseline, we want to:
Capturing changes in sight over the seasons and years.
Sharing data with the international GUE Project Baseline database.
Raising awareness about the importance of healthy waters.
Our data is publicly accessible and can be used by researchers, managers, and the diving community.

Measuring Locations
We use a fixed measurement point to maintain consistent data.
Current measurement point:
Entry north side – Depth: 5 m, GPS: 51° 50′ 56.5″ N, 5° 41′ 22.3″E
At this measurement point we measure:
Visibility (in meters)
Water temperature
Comments on flora, fauna, and any special observations
Data & Photos
All data is entered into the official Project Baseline database and is publicly available.

I am Dabian van der Heijden, 20 years old, living in Veghel, and I dive as a GUE Tech1 and Cave1 diver within GUE. Since 2025, I have been the project manager of Project Baseline De Groene Heuvels, where we monitor underwater visibility and water quality. Anyone who can dive and measure can participate – together we are building a valuable long-term picture of this lake!
